Frightfully Chic: Noël Coward and Fashion Panel Discussion
The public are invited to a free online panel discussion on Monday 22 November. The discussion will run in conjunction with the hit exhibition Noël Coward: Art & Style, currently on view at London’s Guildhall Art Gallery.
Curator Brad Rosenstein will act as moderator of the lively online panel discussion about Coward’s tremendous influence on fashion, an impact that reverberates to this day. From the great couturiers like Molyneux, Hartnell, and Stiebel who dressed his leading ladies to extraordinary costume designers like Gladys Calthrop, Doris Zinkeisen, and Irene Sharaff, the artists crafting Coward’s premiere productions boldly helped to set the styles of their eras. Coward’s own personal style, from his wardrobes on stage and off to the décor of his houses, reflected his glittering theatrical world and a love of chic understatement that was quintessentially English. The presentation will combine delectable visuals with sparkling commentary from panelists including renowned designer Georgina von Etzdorf; author Lucinda Gosling (Fashion: The Evolution of Style); Norman Hartnell biographer Michael Pick; and Gertrude Lawrence authority and collector Timothy Morgan-Owen.
